We started out early Saturday morning. I was up at 4 am, met Vince at 5 am at a Maverick station. I forgot my Nathan water pack but had brought my commuter pack I use to carry workout clothing to work every day, hand bottle and a bottle of Hammer gel. I purchased several water bottles and put them in my pack.
We started running at the trail head at 6 am and made good time up the trail. The trail was crowded--it was Pioneer day and the trail was at capacity with rangers controlling ingress of new hikers.
I was able to keep up with Steve and Vince going up. We were at the peak at 2 hrs 24 minutes. We took some pictures, signed the registry and started back down with a 15 minute stay at the peak. Breathing was easier this time at 11,725 feet. We were higher up than our previous run up to Lone Peak but I had done much better. The run down was tricky for me, I couldn't keep up with Vince or Steve. I had to focus on the trail looking for rocks, roots and my footing seemed insecure. I slipped a lot so I felt like I was unsure of going fast, especially since I fell so many times on my last run. I'm logging so many miles now I wear out shoes faster than ever. It is a challenge financially to keep up. I still need a wet suit but I don't have enough money to buy one. Now I'm looking at race entry fees as a burden. I need $575 to register for Ironman St George but don't have the finds yet. I need a way to earn some extra cash and quick before the registration closes.
