Speed work is pain work

I run a mile uphill every morning to catch a bus to work. Running on my toes or raised heel requires higher knee lifts. I notice my calves and ankles seem to get a larger share of the load and seem to require more energy. I have to breathe harder so my heart rate jumps up very quickly. Recovery seems normal g back down quickly. I don't feel it while running but afterwards, I feel sore in the butt muscle groups: Maximus, minimus, performis, and psoas. I'm only able to maintain quarter mile spurts with walk recovery times to follow.

I do this on my daily commute to the bus stops coming in and from work. It turns into a 1.2 mile hill repeat and a 2 mile Fartlek workout. Followed up by a lunch hour cross training swim or spin session.
