Wasatch Back Ragnar Relay June 2009 #11
I was excited to run my last leg. This was an easy 3 mile run into Heber. I changed into my Spider-man suit and slipped on the hood. There is something about emulating my favorite super hero that boosts my mood and confidence. It was a brisk morning and I got attention from other runners.
Annie smiled at me as she slapped my hand. Cars honked and shouted out to me. It wasn't very long until I was getting too hot and had to remove the hood. How ever did Spider-man do it?
I was almost there and I saw my daughter Elena and Amanda running up to me. We all ran together for the final 10 meters.
I saw Steve and gave him a high five and he was off. I was tired but elated! I had finished my part of the race and now my teammates were on their way to run up to Park City. Some of the toughest hills were up ahead for them. There were high fives and some farewells. Rena, Karli and Annie had to leave to keep commitments.
Accomplishing something that is harder and more difficult than I thought possible has been a catalyst for me to achieve other goals in my life. These people I ran with were my Heros! Each one of us had struggled in one way or another. We had seen each other at our best and worst. Each of us had faced a moment of truth, pushed limits but we all did it. I admired everyone's strength and fortitude. It touched me deeply. I was proud to have run with these people and I determined in my heart that I would achieve my goal to compete in an Ironman. The fire was lighted in my heart and warmed a seed that had laid dormant for many years. This seed has started to sprout. It grows now into a firm resolution.
